2022-2023 Haymarket People's Fund Grant Announcement

Released October 17, 2022

Haymarket is happy to share some exciting updates to our 2022-2023 Grant Cycle!

  • $1,000,000 Grantmaking Pool for Sustaining and Urgent Response Grants!

  • Multi-Year Sustaining Grants - grant up to $20,000 per year for 3 years. To be eligible groups need to have received high or medium funding at least 3 times over the last 5 years and will still be evaluated on our funding criteria.

  • Applications and materials will be available and can be submitted in Spanish. We are evaluating and working towards offering other languages for future cycles.

  • Grant materials updated to try to make clearer what we mean by organizing.

All of these recommendations and changes came from a Working Group made up of grantees, funding panel members, and board and community members.

Haymarket’s Funding Panel members, organizers, and activists from across New England, collectively determine grant awards for the region according to Haymarket’s mission, vision, and principles. Through their organizing and accountability to their constituencies, Funding Panel members help shape Haymarket’s work for justice and equity across New England.

We have two types of grants available:

Sustaining Grants

Sustaining Grants are up to $20,000 for grassroots, social change organizations that meet our funding criteria. These are annual grants for groups doing grassroots anti-racist organizing and movement building across New England. These grants are for general operating support. Grant sizes are determined after a careful evaluation of each proposal considering Haymarket’s Funding criteria and commitment to strengthening anti-racist movement building in New England. We do not fund groups with budgets over $300,000, and we fund both emerging groups and groups that are more established.

The Sustaining Grant deadline is Wednesday, November 30, 2022.

If you have not received a Sustaining Grant in the past three years, you will need to go through a phone screening to receive an application. Contact Jaime at jaime@haymarket.org or call 617-522-7676 ext. 115.

Urgent Response Grants

Urgent Response Grants are up to $5,000 to help grassroots, social change organizations respond quickly to unforeseen crises or opportunities that critically affect your organization and constituency. This includes unexpected events, political crises, or organizing opportunities.

Urgent Response Grant applications will be accepted on a rolling basis as long as funding is available. Interviews will be conducted by phone as needed. Groups will be notified about grant decisions 2 - 4 weeks after we receive your application.

To receive an application, you must first call 617-522-7676 ext. 115 and speak with a Haymarket staff person about your request.

Groups are eligible for one Urgent Response Grant in addition to a Sustaining Grant.
