Haymarket Receives Multi-Year Racial Equity Grant

Haymarket People's Fund is a 49-year-old multicultural, anti-racism foundation that supports grassroots community organizing in the New England region.

As part of the field of philanthropy, Haymarket must honor our true intentions and responsibility by ensuring that resources go directly to those most impacted by oppression to support a realizable movement toward systemic change.

Last fall, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) provided Haymarket with a grant of $300,000 for the next two years to use at our discretion. Members of CZI’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team participated in a People's Institute for Survival and Beyond's Undoing Racism® Community Organizing Workshop and saw the value of bringing resources to organizations that sought to uproot and eradicate systemic racism. This grant was awarded as part of CZI’s commitment to advancing racial equity. We will use these funds to fund anti-racism organizing and movement building across New England.

To be transparent and hold ourselves accountable to our community, we are announcing the receipt of this support and our plans for Haymarket's Regional Funding Panel, composed of activists and organizers, to move it directly to the community through our grantmaking. In redistributing these funds, we will uphold Haymarket's values and principles.

As we uphold the anti-racist, community-driven values of our mission, we pledge to engage with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative with the potential for change in the philanthropic world, which is how true change and reparations can occur.

As Haymarket works toward collective liberation, we strongly encourage our partners in the philanthropic field to commit to these anti-racist, community-centered practices.

This year Haymarket has committed to increasing our grants to a million dollars. While we are grateful to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative for this support, we still need the support of our donors and community to ensure the sustainability of our increased grantmaking. Join us by making a contribution to support anti-racism organizing for systemic change across New England and help us to achieve our goal.
