Fall 2024: Trailblazing Forward

This year marks the 50th year of Haymarket People’s Fund providing funding to grassroots groups throughout New England region.  However, the work is not done! After half a century that includes 20 years of social justice efforts focusing on the redistribution of wealth, and over 20 years of striving to eradicate systemic racism, there remains much more to accomplish.

Fall 2022: Where Do We Go From Here?

“People make 5 to 40 cents an hour to create license plates or for agricultural purposes. I remember my dad telling me how much money he made a day cultivating fish. People inside prison are being used for free labor to keep this country going. It’s a direct transformation from slavery.”

Spring 2022: Maintaining Our Vigilance

The system isn’t broken, it is wildly successful – for those it supports. Concepts of inequality and
racism that disparage many, do so as they support and bolster others. This occurs through an intentional intersection of racism, classism, and other pervasive systems of oppression that exploit our differences in gender, language, nationality, culture, sexuality, and ability to keep us locked in
this scheme of extractive injustice...Knowledge is key. Obtaining an understanding of how the systems of oppression impact each one of us provides us with essential information

Fall 2021: Disrupting the Deliberate, Divisive Scheme

For some time our lives have been impacted by a multitude of unforeseen circumstances. Most recently, the intense convergence of a global health crisis, political insurgence, police brutality, and a racial uprising create a time like none other in our experience. This continuous outpouring of a series of extreme upheaval isn’t discriminating. Instead, it has a resounding effect touching each and every one of us.

Spring 2020: Change is Coming

In what feels like an instant, life is no longer as we once remembered it. It may not return to what we recall, but what many are calling a new normal. Life offers a myriad of experiences. We are always in a moment in time. The current one has surety that change is inevitable.

Fall 2019: Celebrating 45 Years

For 45 years Haymarket has been able to raise over $30 Million Dollars ($30,090,497)! Allocating funds to hundreds of organizations. We have been able to raise a significant amount of funds and support our grantees' organizing work thanks to your generous support throughout the years! As part of our 45th Anniversary Celebration, we want to honor all of our grantees who have been part of the Haymarket Family and are doing the work on the front lines.

Spring 2018: On the Shoulders of Greatness

We stand on the shoulders of greatness. Radical movements in the United States have been won through long and arduous struggle. As we face current obstacles, it is extremely beneficial to recall our history. It has been said that if we don’t learn from history, we bear to repeat it.

Spring 2017: The Possibilities

Let’s rise above being simply reactionary. This is quite difficult as the news flashes yet another injustice at us by the day, at least we can embrace what we know and experience from community organizing. We can rest assured that there are inherent possibilities and a ray of hope.

Fall 2017: The Movement Must be Funded

We currently exist in a very specific moment in time. The political climate has changed drastically,
making our work to change the tide quite significant. Change is not optional. Our communities are
under the siege of monumental forces. Their very survival is at risk. While our organizational missions are relevant, none of us can tackle the systemic pressures alone. Only by coming together in a unified manner can we create the surge necessary to move toward creating change.

Spring 2016: Sustaining the Movement

for Racial Justice

As we near our 42nd Anniversary in the fall, Haymarket People’s Fund is focusing a great deal of energy on assessing, evaluating, and looking inward to learn from our past. At the same time, we
are reaching out to many of our valuable stakeholders to obtain your thoughts and useful guidance.
Gathering all this knowledge will not only provide information around our impact, it will also
be a road map to guide us in sustaining our extremely relevant principles, practices, and focus for
the future.

Fall 2016: This is What We Do

About 20 years ago, we realized that as gatekeepers we had to better understand our role in philanthropy. No longer could we be prescriptive in telling grantees the formula for achieving successful outcomes. Rather we had to delve deeper to understand our complicit role in the field of philanthropy. Touting social justice was not nearly enough.

Fall 2015: The Intentionality of Language

If words and language are power, then a lack of clarity or misperceptions of the meaning of hot button terminology can create additional confusion...The confusion language causes is quite intentional, and keeps us divided and therefore conquered unless we strive to delve deeper
into the meaning of suppressive terminology. Let’s ensure the correct usage of language to build our collective power.

Fall 2014: Celebrating 40 Years

Haymarket People’s Fund has reached its 40 year pinnacle! This is no small achievement. We have moved forward from our initial focus on the redistribution of wealth to our present focus on racial justice across the New England region. There won’t be a party with a well-known guest speaker, honorees, or our signature great food. Well – not yet, anyway. Haymarket has been a trailblazer, and is still cutting edge in the philanthropic arena.
